Suki – “Special Needs”
Suki is a very playful and inquisitive little girl. She’s a very sweet and friendly kitten, loves new people and exploring new places. She really loves to get as much attention as she can - she wants nothing more than to be near you all the time! She is fine to be around other cats and kittens, and would love nothing more than to have a home she could call her own. She just needs a lot of love, patience, and understanding due to her condition; but she will reward you with tons of love and affection in return.
This darling little kitten was originally diagnosed with a very small colon, which the vet believed was a birth defect and suggested surgery. She was going to be euthanized due to this issues, so GVAC took her in for a second look and the vet started her on lactulose. Suki improved quite quickly with taking the lactulose regularly and began going to the bathroom on her own with no real problems passing anything. She is already doing better since she came under the care if GVAC, though her condition is still not 100% sorted out. She had been crying in pain when she was first diagnosed as she was unable to to to the bathroom at all. Since she has been in our care, this has not been an issue, though trying to get her bowel movements in the litter box everytime has been.
We have weaned Suki off the lactulose and she continues to eat dry food and wet food and is able to pass things through on her own. However; Suki is still a bit spastic with her bowel movements, so doesn’t always get things in the litter box. Hopefully, as she continues to grow, the problem will eventually correct itself. Suki may require an ultrasound and/or x-rays to find out more about her condition. So far, she has been improving in small steps.. so hopefully surgery is not in her future. She is not taking any medications at all presently and we are continuing to work towards getting her litter box habits more positive.
Suki was born on July 25th and has been spayed, fully vaccinated, dewormed, deflead, and tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Simba
Simba is a big lynx point Siamese X Long hair with blue eyes. He’s a big lazy ham of a cat, who will just lay in your arms. Simba was at the CRD pound, but he was in need of some serious dental care so they asked GVAC if we would be able to take him into our care. Of course, we did! Simba is a lovely, gentle boy who needs quite a bit of dental work done. One whole side of his mouth is quite infected and he is missing a few teeth on that side already. When we took him into the vet to have his teeth assessed and an appt set for dental work, they were concerned that there may be something else going on with him.
After further testing, it was discovered that this big lovable boy with the bad teeth is also diabetic! He is currently in a wonderful foster home who is monitoring his blood sugar levels and helping him get things under control. We really hope that he won’t always have to have insulin and will be able to have his diabetes controlled with his diet… but for now, he definitely needs it.
Simba will be going in soon to see how things have progressed with his blood sugar levels. We won’t be able to do any dental surgery until things are until control as it is too risky for him to undergo anesthetic at this point. Once his blood sugar levels have stabalized, he will go in and get his teeth taken care of which will certainly help him to feel much better!
We aren’t yet sure how much his dental surgery will be, but it is quite costly… usually around $400-$800.
