Thank you Jennifer, for your donation!

Jennifer, your donation toward Gordo & Simba’s care is a wonderful thing for GVAC! Here is what Jennifer said when she made the donation:

“This is for Gordo and Simba, but especially Gordo. His story reminds me so much of my childhood kitty cat, who was also a grey tabby and would ‘nonchalantly’ counter-surf. I hope this helps a bit with his expenses. All the best!”

It does help, Jennifer – thank you so very much.

Gordo, our Diabetic/FIV Rescue Cat needs more Medical Care – can you help?

Gordo a.k.a Gordito is a sweet, social cat. He was adopted and then surrendered back to GVAC after a few years as he had become diabetic and they could not care for him. Gordo improved quite well with regular insulin and stabalized quite quickly. After some time in foster care, he starting going a bit downhill. Further bloodwork was run and we found out that in addition to having diabetes, Gordo was also positive for FIV. Poor fella! Gordo has had his ups and downs since being back in care, but with proper monitoring and wonderful care from a fabulous foster home his diabetes has improved greatly.

Gordo has had a couple bouts of pancreatitis and some other issues here and there due to his weakened immune system, but if you were to ask Gordo, there is nothing wrong with him at all. He’ll happily follow you around, greet you in the morning when you get up or at the door when you come home. He is definitely food driven and enjoys keeping a constant watch over the kitchen, especially if someone is in the kitchen. Gordo will do just about anything for food. He doesn’t bite or scratch, he actually isn’t sure what to do with a scratching post. He does tend to “counter-surf” as he knows that is where the food is prepared. Might be some left-overs around after all. Gordo gets very excited and meows and purrs when there’s food around, be it yours or his. He enjoys a good head scratch, to curl up on a chair and doze, doesn’t mind being picked up for a short cuddle, and will happily play a game of chase as long as there’s food involved.

Gordo is in palliative foster care with GVAC. He’s not a young man and has quite a few challenges in his life. He is great about having his diabetes monitored and having his insulin injections. Right now he gets his shot with breakfast and dinner and doesn’t seem to notice as he’s too busy eating. GVAC will continue to provide for his care as long as needed. With Gordo’s spunk, we hope that to be a long time. Gordo would greatly appreciate a contribution to assist with his vet care. We have been working with an excellent vet to keep his diabetes under control and keep a close eye on his bloodwork so we can promptly attend to anything unusual and keep him as healthy and happy as we can. It’s the least we can do for all the joy he brings to his foster home and everyone who meets him.

Japan’s Cat Island Update

From a commenter on The Conscious Cat:   I have a friend in Japan who managed to get in touch with people who knew about Tashirojima – people and cats are said to be okay, but there was a lot of building damage and they need bare necessities for humans and cat food… The Japanese organizations said they couldn’t help at the moment (my friend was very frustrated) and he’s checking for some other foreign organisations which maybe could help. He also found out that a Japanese defence forces’ helicopter landed there this afternoon. So that’s hopeful. Lots of volunteers are going to be needed there to help rebuild the island. See More
