Dolce

Dolce201

This beautiful tabby girl here is Dolce. She was found amongst a house that had been demolished, wandering around in the rubble that was scattered about. She had been abandoned by the previous owners according to the neighbour.  A good Samaritan, who had been feeding her, picked her up and she was brought into the care of GVAC. Dolce was incredibly shy and scared at first… she didn’t want to come out in the open for awhile and was quite skittish of anyone wanting to touch her or pet her. Her wonderful and patient foster mom won her over with treats and her true cat nature has begun to show.  She loves playing with her toys and likes to chatter to you. She enjoys being brushed and really likes to rub into your cheek… she’d nuzzle you all day long if she could. Dolce has really come out of her shell in foster care, although she is still apprehensive with strangers. Dolce needs a special home who understands that it may take a bit of time to build trust with her, as her last owners neglected to care for her as she should have been. She has lots of love to give to someone who is willing to let her proceed in her own way and learn that you aren’t going to hurt her or abandon her like she was before. A quiet home would suit Dolce best.

Dolce has been spayed, vaccinated, and tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

GVAC’s 9th Annual Wags to Whiskers Dinner and Silent Auction was a huge success!!

We made over $20,000 to help save animals at this year’s dinner and auction.  A thank you to all the volunteers who helped make it happen, the people and businesses that donated to our cause and to the wonderful folks who came out and purchased tickets to the event!

A very special thank you goes out to the following volunteers, who worked hard on the night of the event even though they purchased their own dinner tickets, as did the board members:

Jeff, Kelly, Joyce, Kirsten, Brian, Lara, Sebastian, Cindy, Marguerite, Thomas, Sylvia and our MC Steve.  We could not have done it without you!

Picasso – Updated with her YouTube video

picasso2 picasso
Picasso is a gorgeous girl who was found as a skinny, hungry stray. When tested she came back negative for FeLV, but positive for FIV. Please don’t let that scare you away from Picasso…. FIV is a cat-specific virus, so it cannot be passed to people or other pets such as dogs, rats, birds, etc. She doesn’t require any special veterinary care or medications. The only special care she needs is to be kept indoors, and to be an only kitty unless she can go to a home with another FIV cat.  Other than that, she just needs good food, lots of love, and a yearly check-up and vaccinations at the vet just like every other cat does. She is extremely healthy and is just as likely to live a long normal life as any other cat without FIV.

Picasso was born sometime in August 2008, so she is a young girl with plenty of energy and life in her. She is an extremely loving and sweet girl who loves to play and cuddle and sleep with you at night. The foster mom is having so much enjoyment from her she knows she would fit into any family very easily.  She would be great with kids as she is such a playful and outgoing girl !

UPDATE:  Picasso’s foster mom has reported that she feels Picasso would be wonderful with kids.  She is very playful and very gentle – just perfect.

Picasso is spayed, fully vaccinated, dewormed and deflead.

Sam – Adoption Pending…

Sam1Sam with little kid

This handsome boy here is Sam. He’s a big lovable boy who came from the CRD pound. He was taken on by GVAC because he tested positive for FIV. He very likely contracted it from the years he spend outdoors as a stray. He’s a bit rough around the ears from his time spent fighting for his survival, but he’s still a gorgeous boy who deserves a great home! Sam is another kitty who is looking for a home that can see past the fact he has FIV and love him for the wonderful boy he is. He can still live a long and normal life having FIV, and he doesn’t need any medications or any special veterinary care other than the usual yearly check-up and vaccinations…  just love him and treat him right, and he’s just like any other cat. He likes to play and really likes to be around people. If he can’t see where you are, he will often start “calling” and looking for you. Sam likes his food a little too much, so he is currently eating some ”low-calorie” food to help him shed a few pounds.

Sam has been neutered, dewormed, deflead, and fully vaccinated. Do you think you might be willing to open your home up to a cat like Sam?

If you would like to adopt Sam, or if you would like more information on FIV, please email us at gvac@shaw.ca
